GameThread: DC United at Philadelphia Union
Over 1,000 United supporters have hit the road to accompany their beloved team to the hated city of Philadelphia. If you're reading this, I'm guessing you didn't make the trip, but you have come to the right place to share your thoughts pre-game, in-game, and post-game.
Game time: 6:00pm EST
Television: Fox Soccer Channel
Projected Starting Lineup:
| Perkins | ||||
| Talley | Jakovic | Pena | Wallace | |
| Morsink | ||||
| Barklage | Castillo | |||
| Quaranta | ||||
| Allsopp | Pontius |
Last minute thoughts: After being shut out for two weeks in a row, look for United to change things up today. Danny Allsopp will make his first MLS start and bring a more physical presence to the attack. Meanwhile, Chris Pontius, who missed some practice during the week, remains in the starting lineup ahead of Jaime Moreno.
If you read our Scouting Report earlier this morning, then you know that PU will be trying to turn this match into more of a scrap than our team would prefer. United can avoid that by playing smart, and should be able to keep the Union off the board if they avoid turnovers.
Over the past two weeks, you've seen me leave you here with one optimistic thought, and one pessimistic thought. Neither have turned out too well for us. So this time I'll just wish our boys luck, and leave you with a big VAMOS UNITED.

Castillo with 2 turnovers in first 2 minutes. Picking up where he left off last week.

Was there a final tally on the # of United fans that made the trip?
They’re making themselves heard already.

Specifically, the offense
United is pushing forward like they’re up 2-0, not down 2-0. Morsink is basically a 5th defender out there. Wallace pushed forward some, but Castillo has been invisible on the left.

The first two weeks I was generous enough to give a couple players a rating of 3 (out of 5). I’m not sure I see even that happening unless we play better in the next 45

That was a 3-0 loss
with two gift goals.

Totally agree. Moreno did the old keeper psyche-out to another team a few years ago, but I’m old and I forget things.

Onalfo philosophy
I think we saw that Novak is still a possession-oriented coach. What is Onalfo? If we were playing United football (possession offense, pressure defense) it sure didn’t look like it. Our team is not crisp (or skilled) enough to play long passes to the feet of a player making a run. I wish we would get back to a short-pass, patient, possession offense.
Pontius does not have the nose for the goal that Quaranta, Esky, Moreno, DiazArce, even Lassiter had. Is it Boyzz time? Alsopp is new and has had success elsewhere, so I give him the benefit of the doubt for now. We need improvement in so many areas.

Central D
If Pena is still hurt next week and Jakovic is out with the red card suspension, who plays? James for one ok but I don’t like the rest of the options (Talley or McTavish). I have not given up hope but if we continually decrease our deficit exponentially we will never get above zero :-)
