GameThread: Columbus Crew At D.C. United (Again)
D.C. United's loss to the Columbus Crew in the U.S. Open Cup semi-finals on Wednesday was essentially the end of our season. But the team still has plenty to play for, and we still have plenty of reasons to watch, as Chest outlined earlier this week. Finishing the season out of last place and avoiding the all-time worst goals record is the key now. United has the tools to do it. The question is whether they can all play well together at the same time.
Game time: 7:30 pm
Television: Fox Soccer Channel
Projected Starting Lineups: After using its full starting lineup on Wednesday night, United may choose to give a few starters some rest, especially those that have already played 210 minutes this week (Santino Quaranta, Stephen King, Dejan Jakovic). I doubt that the team will turn to Troy Perkins again this season (or ever?), but we could see some different forwards and midfielders in the mix.

Are there even enough players available to give anyone a rest?
Jakovic is with Canada for their game against Peru, and Boskovic is still with Montenegro. Meanwhile, DC’s injury report lists Zayner (ankle sprain) and Rice (cut over his eye) as out. Add them in with Burch, Wallace, and Barklage, and I count only 18 fit players on the entire roster (and that’s counting Quinn, who only just returned to training). It seems likely to me that we’ll only have 6 available subs.
My expectation is for a 442 with Hamid in goal, a back four of McTavish, James, Talley, and Graye, a midfield of Najar, Simms, King, and Quaranta, and Hernandez and Allsopp up front. We could see Pontius start for either King or Quaranta if either of them is low on energy.

Moments after I post
DCU lineup off Twitter (right to left):
Hamid; Graye, Simms, James, Zayner; Najar, Morsink, King, Quaranta; Hernandez, Allsopp
Subs: Perkins, Pena, Talley, McTavish, Moreno
Zayner apparently is fit after all. Simms at center back is not something I like at all; even if Simms does no worse than Talley, this still allows Morsink onto the field. Also, there’s no word on why Cristman is out, as he was fit just a couple of days ago.

Starting lineup
Hamid
Zayner, James, Simms, Graye
Quaranta, King, Morsink, Najar
Allsopp, Hernandez
Guess I was wrong about Quaranta and King. They could actually play 300 minutes this week.

This might be Hamid’s last start for awhile

That's big news
But probably the right decision for the team towards the end of a failed season if they think that Hamid’s injury could be a concern throughout his future.
This would give Troy Perkins a final chance to play his way onto the protection list.
