Cake or Death? Surprise midseason acquisition Luis Silva

Historically, D.C. United has been at its best when employing a CAM, a central attacking midfielder. He's the guy who pulls the strings and runs the attack, creating goals for teammates and scoring them himself. Marco Etcheverry started the tradition back in 1996, and Christian Gomez picked up the baton upon his arrival. Since then, though, it's been different. Santino Quaranta was forced into the role and did not shine. Branko Boskovic wasn't the right fit, and Dwayne De Rosario was always more withdrawn forward than attacking midfielder in his time at RFK Stadium. Luis Silva, though, might be the return to the CAM many DCU fans have been waiting for.

Today we decide a part of that open question - at least as much as an internet community of soccer fans with no actual say in how the team is run can decide anything in the real world. Silva is the subject of today's installment of Cake or Death.

After arriving from Toronto FC in a midseason trade that sent a stack of cones and some orange slices the other way, Silva scored in each of his first three appearances for the Black-and-Red, but then caught whatever it was that plagued the rest of the team all year - he failed to score again the rest of the season.
