Thanks Ben

Ben Olsen was the Coach of the Year. He beat Chelsea with a team of MLS All-Stars. He led United to an unforgettable playoff win in Red Bull Arena. He took the club on the most improbable Open Cup run. For much of the last decade, he kept United in contention when they had no business being there.

He also led the club over four separate seasons in which it was the worst in the league. He could never seem to consistently figure out an offense, and no player scored more than 13 goals in a year under his leadership. Every season, he seemed to be having less and less fun. It’s been time to move on, and it has been for a long time.

Ben Olsen is a wonderful person who gave absolutely everything to his club and his city. He’d always have a kind word for you at a United event, or if you saw him around Shaw. I’m excited for him to no longer be responsible for the state of the team, for him to no longer feel that weight. I’m excited for him to do things that make him happy. And yes, I’m looking forward to what United can be without him.

Thank you, Ben. For everything.
