GameThread: Real Salt Lake at DC United, US Open Cup
DC United's quest to return to the US Open Cup Finals for the third year in a row continues tonight against Real Salt Lake. As outlined here earlier today, and complemented by RSL Soapbox's preview, this match should prove much more difficult than DC's 4-2 victory over FC Dallas in the previous round.
Game time: 7:30pm EST
Television: Match to be streamed live on dcunited.com
Stadium Info: Get your tickets at the RFK box office.
Projected Starting Lineup:
| Perkins | ||||
| McTavish | James | Rice | Graye | |
| Morsink | King | |||
| Khumalo | Castillo | |||
| Emilio | Moreno |
Last minute thoughts: United's mission statement is to "Win Championships and Serve the Community." Judging by tonight's lineup, only the second phrase appears to be a priority in 2010. DC is using a collection of players in its front 6 that has fallen far short of expectations so far this season (with the exception of Stephen King). By starting two wingers (Cristian Castillo and Thabiso Khumalo) who have failed to produce the hard work rate that our team needs, a great amount of pressure may be placed on our fullbacks. In order for DC United to advance tonight, Troy Perkins, Julius James, and Barry Rice will all need to have great matches. Luckily for us, each is capable of doing just that.
This is your place for pre-game, in-game, and post-game thoughts.

Is Onalfo keeping the “real” starters for Saturday’s game? What’s the reason behind leaving them out? Judging by how this season is turning out, I think most would agree tonight’s game is more important.

Our best chance for scoring might come from Jaime Moreno via a penalty kick given up by Robbie Russell. That’s been a fairly common problem for Russell.

Still 0-0 at halftime. Terribly boring first half by both sides.
We’ll see which team makes a move first to try to seek out the victory. United is playing well defensively, but I’m worried that Javier Morales and Alvaro Saborio might tear them to shreds if introduced in the second half. Will DCU be inserting Quaranta, Pontius, and Najar to pull this one out?

Huzzah! It’s crazy to think DCU’s on a bit of a streak now.
