Najar Signs New Contract
DC United announced today that star winger Andy Najar has signed a new and improved contract. Najar, who won the 2010 MLS Rookie of the Year award, was by all accounts United's best player despite being just 17 years old.
This is most certainly good news. Najar has the potential to become a regular MLS Best 11-quality player, and giving him a raise comes at no cost against the salary cap (for the time being, anyway). Extending his deal also means that his virtually inevitable transfer abroad will garner United a hefty transfer fee. It's also a great statement to our promising young players. Those guys can see that, here in DC, they have the tools to become big-time players quickly, and that they'll be rewarded for that success.
