In the midst of D.C. United’s 5-0 thumping of Real Salt Lake was that goal from Lucas Rodriguez, it occurred to me I kind of saw that goal before:
I saw it in a D.C. United game.
Coincidentally, I saw it done against Real Salt Lake.
Even more coincidentally, I even saw it done by a player from Argentina.
Marcelo Gallardo came from Paris Saint-Germain (OK, this is getting spooky now) before the 2008 season and while his time in Black-and-Red was fleeting (after all he battled injury and came on as a substitute in D.C.’s Open Cup win over the Charleston Battery, his last appearance with D.C.), he had a moment of magic of his own, receiving a Marc Burch cross near the endline and goalpost, rocketing it over Nick Rimando for a 4-1 win. His work was beautiful:
But I mean...Rodriguez’ goal Saturday, picked out of the air from a Wayne Rooney corner, was kind of beautiful too:

Both are damned beautiful, but I just can’t decide, so...
