Bill Hamid to wear No. 24 jersey in D.C. United return

New Hamid era, new Hamid number

When Bill Hamid takes his place on the field for the first time since returning to D.C. United, he will do so with a new number. The team announced today that Hamid will wear the 24 jersey in his second stint with the team.

Hamid spent his first stint as the goalkeeper for the Black-and-Red wearing #28, a number he wore from 2009-2017. However, Joseph Mora, acquired in the off-season by the team, currently holds the number most fans associate with the 27-year-old shot stopper. Hamid wore #16 with FC Midjtylland, the Danish team he was with before yesterday’s loan back to his hometown club. It was a number that was available here, along with the #12 that he has worn while competing for the United States. In the end, Bill opted for #24 instead.

The team also announced that left back Vytas, acquired Tuesday from the Portland Timbers, would wear #27 with the Black-and-Red. Still, most fans were looking to see if their old Bill Hamid jerseys would still have the same number that he will wear in Audi Field. It appears that a new era will come with a new number for the Homegrown Player.

Someone better make sure the D.C. United Club Shop has plenty of goalkeeper jerseys in stock, and plenty of namesets at the ready.
