Yamil Asad scored the first ever goal in the history of Audi Field, curling home a goal for D.C. United in the 27th minute. Neither team had threatened much through the first 25 minutes of the first half, exchanging half chances, with neither keeper tested.
The goal gave D.C. United a 1-0 lead.
And there didn’t appear to be much of the way in a chance when right back Oniel Fisher’s cross was blocked by a defender. But Zoltan Stieber picked up the ball, and laid off a pass to Asad, who was outside of the half circle. Asad one-timed a shot that curled around and dipped over goalkeeper Brian Rowe for the first ever Audi Field goal. The strike was Asad’s 8th of the season, tying him with Darren Mattocks for the team lead, and besting his 7 with Atlanta United last year.
