Friday Freedom Kicks: Post-SuperDraft D.C. United links for 17 January 2014

A day after a head-scratching trade, Dave Kasper returned to form yesterday. Today's link dump focuses on the SuperDraft, but there's a little drunk* Ben Olsen tossed in, too. * Ben Olsen was not actually drunk.

D.C. United got their guy yesterday, even after trading down a spot and netting some allocation money. Then they even surprised us again when they traded into the second round to take a Real Madrid academy product. So, a day after pulling one of the more infuriating trades in recent memory, Dave Kasper and Ben Olsen had a good day on Wednesday. So let's get some takes on it.

Seems reasonable to start things off with Steve Goff's take on the day. Great quotes and background from the dean of American soccer reporters, as always.

Matt Doyle also rates D.C.'s draft, but thinks somebody else did better. (Hint: They did really badly last year, were involved in two high profile trades with United in as many days this week, and they play really stupid music every time they score a goal at home.)

After taking Steve Neumann from Georgetown and Patrick Mullins from Maryland in the first round, Jay Heaps side might be even more fun to watch next year than they were this year. That is both surprising and more surprising, for all the reasons you might think.

The Pinnacle of Drunk-Sounding Interviews | Open Wide For Some Soccer
The guys at OWFSS have a series of "happy hour interviews" going (really, they're just slowed down sound bites, but the effect is wonderful), and this one had me in stitches. Ben Olsen would be a hilarious drunk, I think it's safe to say.
