The United States women's national team takes on Haiti tonight at RFK Stadium in their final game of the group stage of the 2014 Concacaf Championship, which also doubles as Concacaf's qualification tournament for the 2015 World Cup. A win or a tie would win the group for the United States and have them face off in the semifinals against the winner of tomorrow night's match between Jamaica and Mexico (also at RFK). With the World Cup coming up next year, we want to improve our USWNT, and that starts tonight!
Kickoff time: 7:30 PM EDT
Venue: Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium
TV/Streaming: This game will be on Fox Sports 1 on the television and FoxSoccer2Go for streaming.
Projected USWNT starting XI: From our own leanneelston:
With Alex Morgan out 4-6 weeks with a left ankle sprain, Coach Jill Ellis will be forced to change things up a bit in the attack. Don't expect too much difference from the Guatemala game elsewhere on the field, though. We'll have Hope Solo in goal, behind Meghan Klingenberg, Whitney Engen, Becky Sauerbrunn, and Ali Krieger. Carli Lloyd and Lauren Holiday will set up in defensive midfield, with Megan Rapinoe, Tobin Heath, and Sydney Leroux locks in attack.
Who replaces Alex Morgan is the question--does Ellis go for a target striker in Abby Wambach or the newer Christen Press? I'm going with Wambach up top to start this one, but look for Press to sub in sometime after the first 45. Off the bench, we can also expect to see the always reliable Amy Rodriguez and I'm thinking the likewise reliable Heather O'Reilly.
Match previews: We here at SB Nation have our preview of the game, as does Steve Goff of the Washington Post and the US Soccer website itself.
Prediction: This should be one of those games that the United States wins by four or five goals. Give me 4-0 to the USWNT, with a brace by Abby Wambach and one goal each by Christen Press and Carli Lloyd.
What are you drinking? I am recently back from Homecoming and so was drinking a lot of Williamsburg Alewerks, so something from them (perhaps their Washington's Porter?)
As always, this is your place for pre-game, in-game, and post-game talk.
