Stop whatever you're doing (unless what you're doing is "watching the World Cup" in which case come back at halftime or after the game) and go look at these pretty pictures, right now. These are the newest renderings for the proposed D.C. United stadium on Buzzard Point in Southwest DC. And are they ever stunning.
Things I love:
- That roof!
- That plaza!
- Those sightlines!
- That streetcar!
- Those auxiliary buildings! Espresso!
- That pretty, pretty stadium at the center of it all. I mean, just look at it!
Things I don't:
- This is still only a rendering.
That's really my only complaint. But the team and city are making progress. In fact, the legislation has been sent to the DC Council, and the first of two definite hearings on it is scheduled for the morning of June 26. So help the stadium become a reality: Click over to Madison to read the bill and comment on it, and then go read the hearing announcement. If you're so inclined, follow the instructions in the announcement and sign up to testify on the 26th, preferably in person, but in writing if you can't be there.
And after that just keep ogling these renderings until the next World Cup game kicks off.
