Reporters in Mexico and Peru are saying that Morelia midfielder Edison Flores is in advanced discussions with D.C. United. Reports throughout the day have claimed the talks are advanced, with Juan Manuel Figueroa saying that D.C. made an offer that would be hard to reject, while Peru Fox Sports Reporter Mauricio Loret de Mola claimed Flores (under contract until 2022) was leaving La Monarquia in a deleted tweet:

In Flores, United would potentially get a winger who can play both sides of the field but recently had been given the #10 jersey for Morelia. The 25 year old has been with Morelia since the summer of 2018, with 12 goals and 5 assists in all competitions for the squad in 47 matches. Prior to that, he spent time with Aalborg in Denmark and Universitaro in his native Peru. On a national team level, Flores has 47 caps and 13 goals, including the game-winning effort in the 2019 Copa America semifinal for Los Incas en route to their 2nd place finish.
Based on Flores’ valuation (placed at €3,000,000 by Transfermarkt), this presumably slots him as United’s second Designated Player alongside Paul Arriola. It’s not the first time the Black-and-Red have been linked with Peruvian midfielders by way of Morelia, with Andy Polo (also formerly of the U) eventually going to Monarcas before joining the Portland Timbers.
Flores, who turns 26 in May and was married over the holidays, has a sizzle reel over yonder:
