D.C. United announced this evening that they had re-signed Jared Jeffrey. After being convinced by Ben Olsen to sign for another year before the 2016, he took advanatage of the faith Olsen had in him by mounting his must impressive campaign yet.
Dave Kasper had this to say about re-signing Jeffrey:
Jared is coming off of his best season at our club. He proved that he can be an impact player in the central midfield through his work rate, tenacity and ability to connect passes,. We look forward to a strong 2017 and beyond from Jared.
Despite his good year, the competition around Jeffrey just keeps getting more and more intense. While Luciano Acosta has the attacking midfielder spot locked down, Jeffrey is competing with multiple players in both the defensive midfielder spot and the box-to-box midfielder spot: Marcelo Sarvas, Rob Vincent, Nick DeLeon, Julian Buescher, Chris Durkin, and (probably) Ian Harkes can all fit into one or both of those positions. To keep his spot, he’ll have to take another step forward.
As per usual, the terms of the deal were not made known; however, there was no mention of a “multi-year deal” like the team said in the Sean Franklin re-signing. This could simply be an editorial choice, however.
Welcome back, Jared!
