DC isn't ambitious they said... DC don't sign proper talent and take chances on random South Americans and second-tier players, they also said. Well, today after the signing of Yamil Asad by DC, they've shut the haters up! (Because they also wanted Asad at their club too) Yamil Asad is a player that can go straight into the first team, unlike some players DC have been known for signing in the past few years... And also he'll be one of our own superstars, partnering with Paul Arriola and Luciano Acosta as the top dogs in DC.
To be honest, why Asad decided to sign for DC instead of another top MLS side or go to a different and better league is beyond me. What I do know is that the 23-year old will have an immediate impact on the team, like he did at Atlanta United. Asad hit the back of the net last season seven times, also recording thirteen assists in the league last season, an impressive debut season.
The transaction of Asad is $200k in GAM and $100k in TAM paid in 2018, with an additional $100k GAM and 100k TAM paid in 2019 to his previous club, Atlanta United. Another clause in this deal is that if Asad appears in one MLS match in 2020, then DC needs to fork out another $100k in GAM to Atlanta. Now, if you're still with me and you've processed this deal in all it's complexity, then well done, because I still have troubles figuring out the difference in General Allocation Money and Targeted Allocation Money.
Asad has taken up the number 22 and will mostly feature as a center attacking midfielder, and occasionally a forward. If it were up to me though, I'd partner him with Luciano Acosta and Paul Arriola behind a number 9, or in our case, Patrick Mullins. I can see Olsen trying to fit in all these players plus Stieber, Zoltan, Harkes... etc. As a manager, it is a pretty good problem to have too much talent for a few spots, as it will create competition between the players.
Let's now just see how Olsen gels this squad for the upcoming season and let's hope we actually win games this year, as that could be a real possibility, considering United are gonna want to make an impression in the new Audi Field and if we don't make the playoffs this season, I don't know if Olsen will survive. Let's hope before our new grounds open, we don't get wrecked on away form.
