2011 MLS Mock Draft: D.C. United Selects Daniel Keat In Second Round
For this pick, I searched far and wide for a player that exhibited the following traits: intelligent, hard working, aggressive, but not necessarily physically imposing. If you're a Black And Red United reader, then you know what I am describing. These are the traits of Olsen's Army, and Daniel Keat will fit right in. The New Zealand born senior played central midfield at Dartmouth, but projects more as a winger in the pros. Keat has an excellent crossing ability and a great understanding of the game.

This would be something of a coup if it happens in real life
I was surprised to see Keat fall to #31, even if he does take up a foreign player spot. Good - but non-elite - foreign players in the draft tend to fall some every year, but I doubt Keat will still be around when we’re up to select.
If we were to grab Keat, I’d look for another move to follow. We have as many as 6 players available to take a wide midfield role at this point; if Keat is still there at #31, it seems to me that we’d be best off taking him (as the best player available) and then trading someone he’d be competing with further down the depth chart. Maybe it’s Junior? The idea would be to end up with Keat and something else (cash or a supplemental pick or two) rather than take a flyer on a lesser player at #31.

And how do you feel about the fact that I selected Keat ahead of Jason Herrick?
