PrintD.C. United looks to continue their outstanding Wednesday winning streak tonight in Open Cup action against a familiar opponent: the Richmond Kickers. Although at a somewhat neutral location, the match is considered a home game for D.C.

Last minute thoughts: These Open Cup matches are often difficult because they pit us against an opponent who may consider this their most important match of the season. A win for the Kickers would be monumental for them. A win for United is just business as usual. It's expected. But after witnessing losses by the New York Red Bulls and Chicago Fire in Open Cup matches yesterday, D.C. is sure to take this fight seriously.

dcunited.com is showing the lineup as a flat 3-4-3, I think it’s going to be more like how I have it above.
Hated the lineup at first glance, but now I’m warming to it a little bit. The team has not scored once all season with Moreno and Emilio on the field together, but adding Allsopp to the mix could help matters. Still, I’m going to predict that we won’t score until the second half when Pontius or Quaranta come on.

That means he and Khumalo are the wingers, with Emilio and Allsopp up top. Makes sense, since Moreno has always liked to drift to the left anyway.

Halftime thoughts
Moreno was playing well until that miss. He just dropped 3-4 spots on my player rankings.
Team has looked much much better since Quaranta entered.
Defense has been solid. Fairly good chance that Hamid, Jakovic, and Rice can preserve a shutout. Biggest risk would be a Morsink or Najar giveaway.

Can anyone help with Richmond's formation?
Since I only caught the last 7 or so minutes of the first half, figuring out what the Kickers are up to has been difficult. So far I’ve figured out the following:
- They’re in a 4141.
- Kalungi and Yomby are at center back. Bothe is at left back. Delicate is up front by himself. Elcock is playing very wide on the left.
- I saw Gorres was somewhere in central midfield. Burke is out there somewhere too.

Looked like Moreno and Quaranta were playing paper/rock/scissors to decide who was going to take the shot. Moreno threw rock, Quaranta threw paper, Quaranta scored.

Not sure how I feel about that.
Glad we dealt with this in a pretty calm manner. Moreno scoring so quick in the second half really took Richmond’s legs out from under them.
