After a shockingly stagnant week 9, we have a bit more movement in the power rankings this week. The most decisive result of the week was apparently the Revolution's 3-2 victory over the Red Bulls, causing the Revs to climb up from the bottom, and New York to finally evacuate the second tier.
In the top tier, three teams have clearly distinguished themselves. A majority of the 7 voters now have elected to put only those three teams above all the rest. Will any other team be able to catch LA, Columbus, and RSL? Toronto's four-game unbeaten streak, including a big road victory over the Earthquakes, might make them the likeliest candidate.
Giving DC United some new company in the fourth tier this week are the only two teams they have beaten: Chivas USA and the Kansas City Wizards. A few more wins (maybe combined with a few more NY losses?) might get the bloggers to start to think about placing DC a bit higher in the rankings.

Revs + Joseph = Best in tier 3, possibly a contender to get to tier 2.
Revs - Joseph = Tier 4, possibly all the way at the bottom.
I think the tiers are pretty accurate. Tier 1 contains the teams that are obviously the class of the league. Tier 2 features all of the teams that should reasonably expect a playoff spot at this juncture (side note: my prediction that Preki’s TFC would ugly their way into being a winning team is looking less foolhardy by the day). I think those two are 100% right in composition and the ordering of each group.
In tier 3, I think the Revs are probably the best team. I suppose the rest of that group is where I’d place them, though they’re all roughly equally mediocre.
I’d argue that Philly and DC both deserve to jump Chivas USA after this weekend. Chivas has been very poor lately, and DC beat them head to head in a game that we dominated for the most part. If Thornton has a merely average game, we put 4 or 5 goals in, easy. Philly has just as strong a claim, winning at Houston (a venue pretty much no one succeeds in). In fact, you could even argue that KC deserves to be behind the bottom 2, since we’ve beaten them fairly recently and their performances of late have been abysmal. Take away their 4-0 win on opening day, and they’ve got just 5 goals and 1 win in 8 games (despite what should be a massive home field advantage; I’m pretty certain I’ve never played an 11v11 game on a field as short as the one at CAB).
