For this second edition of the SBNhanced MLS Power Rankings, we have added a seventh voter, which is fellow SBN Soccer blogger and MLS follower Cottagers Confidential (for Fulham fans).
On first glance, you might notice that there wasn't much movement between the tiers. That tells me that our voters should give themselves a collective pat on the back for getting this thing right last week.
On second glance, you also notice that there is a significant and defined difference between each tier. The four top teams each earned at least 5 top tier votes from the 7 voters, and every one of the second tier teams earned at least 1 top tier vote. So even though the teams are all still packed together in the MLS standings, certain teams are clearly beginning to distinguish themselves in our minds.
Going into this week's voting, I was most interested in seeing how each blogger would grade Houston and Salt Lake after their match on Thursday night. For the record, I voted both of them for the top tier, but wasn't surprised to find that RSL remains ahead of the Dynamo in the SBNhanced Power Rankings, despite being behind them where it really counts in the standings.
Anything else jump out at you? Care to take a guess if these rankings will still hold after the full slate of 8 games this Saturday?

ugh
Hoping that a nice pounding of Philly will lift DC out of the cellar. Time for Allsop to hit one in…

I really disagree with us being dead last. We’ve been quite bad, to be sure, but it seems people quickly forgot how truly dreadful both San Jose and Philly were in their debuts. They tried hard, and still were awful. Based on what we’ve seen around the league thus far, Philly and San Jose should be sitting in the bottom 2 spots, on an island of their own.
I also don’t see how Chivas got a single vote, unless it’s mathematically impossible for there to be more than 3 teams with 0 points. I want to say that TFC should be in the bottom tier, but there are 5 teams that have really sucked so far, so someone gets a free pass into the 3rd tier.

I find the team that isn't firing its Captain
to be slightly better than the one that is. So Chivas got the vote from me, rather than Toronto.

I suppose the better way to state my point would be to say that I don’t think any of the bottom 5 clubs deserve any votes. However, since that’s not possible, I can see giving a vote to TFC or Chivas. Both are pretty bad, and are currently in the act of making bad decisions. They suck equally in my opinion.
I also seem to have misunderstood that there was a 3 way tie for last (that’s what I get for trying to read and comprehend at 3:45am). Ignore that part.

Yeah
When you, aka Chivas, miss wide-open-shots against the Red Bulls, you shouldn’t get a vote.
