I really hope James has a breakout year. With his athleticism and bravery, he just needs to make a step forward in terms of positioning and timing. The distance between where he is now and being a starting quality player (especially with Perkins behind him now) isn’t such a large gap. No guarantees, of course, but the possibility is there.

I think the best bet is Castillo. If he can bring something close to his form with Los Cuscatlecos, he’ll be a really good MLS left winger.

Barklage would be a good bet. If he gets the opportunity to play a larger role, and continues on the fast pace that he started with last year, he could be a breakout star.

Another possibility that hasn’t been mentioned yet is Boyzzz Khumalo. If he improves some defensively, he should see major minutes in 2010 in support of Quaranta or Castillo. He hasn’t been much of a scorer so far, but there’s always a chance.

If Boyzzz can get a few goals (lets say 5) he’d move past his current Kpene 2.0 status. Would love to see him break out. Maybe injury free he’ll be able to step it up.
