A 4-4-2 with a narrow diamond midfield, pure d-mid role, pure a-mid role, and wide overlapping outside backs
1) we have Espindola who really cannot operate as the lone striker, he needs to be part of a 2 or 3 man forward line. He likes to drift wide, as opposed to start wide. That why I see him as part of a 2 man forward line
2) Our starting outside backs (Kemp and Franklin) have played a lot as midfielders. A narrow midfield allows them to get wide with more space and time. This can allow Kemp to have more time to swing in crosses and Franklin more space to get in the attack.
3) The empty bucket midfield is not working nor is that attractive. We no longer have true outside midfielder plus they are hard to find these days. Gone are the days where you can easily find a Josh Gros and Ben Olsen
4) Although I love all these guys, I hope we drop them
Saborio (too slow on the ball now, too much $$ for production)
Halsti (too slow in general, too much $$ for production)
Pontius (injuries, inconsistency, too much $$)
Arnauld (age, $$, will miss him)
Doyle ( just doesn’t bring anything other than slick hair, trade him to colorado)
5) Give Perry Kitchen a low or just under DP deal. Not gonna find anyone better. Hamid and Kitchen are our backbone. They are DC United. Keep these guys happy. Give Perry Party Boy's money. Easy decision. Will not listen to the people saying that he hasn't played well this season. One of the most consistent players in MLS the past 5 years. Never injured. Just shut up if you think we should let him go. We just need a system that would allow him to succeed to his full potential. I am all for the front office talking to Perry saying, "We want to build this team around you. We want to reward you $$ for the hard work you put on this team. We want you to be the heir for captaincy once Boswell retires."
6)
After the cuts I mentioned before, here is where we stand,
Espindola-Rolfe--------------------Arrieta the forward sub
Farfan----------------------------- Coria, Martin as A-mid sub
DeleonAguilar
Kitchen-----------------Jeffery sub
Kemp- Boswell-Birnbaum-Franklin--------Korb, Mishu, Robinson as outside back subs, Opare as centerback sub
Hamid--------------------Dystra, Worra as keeper back ups
a) forward line honestly not bad. Espindola and Rolfe work well together. We are invested into them doing well. Put a team behind them so they can succeed in attack and not need to defend as much. Sign someone fast and creative for challenge Arrieta for first forward sub position. Also lets let Aguilar get some time up top.
b)NEED NEED NEED to sign a quality pure A-mid. maybe two? Coria and Martin are actually good playes, but United has never had a system that gets them close to on the field
c)need need need to sign quality midfielders for left central and right central. Would love to have Deleon to always be are first sub. Think he could do a lot better that way.
d) try our best to find someone better than jeffery as a pure d-mid. can't be that hard right?
e) centerbacks= fine Boswell captain, Birnbaum and Opare fighting
f) Need high quality left back. Although Kemp has a good cross, he is not a championship quality left back. If Franklin is healthy, no need for another right back
g) Keepers fine. No need for a change.
What are your ideas?
