The transfer window is open all across the world, and now we are starting to get some rumors involving D.C. United. While many fans still hope for the return of Yamil Asad, D.C. United would be remiss if they were not also exploring other players that could be brought in.

La Provincia, the main newspaper of the Canary Islands, reports that D.C. United are at least interested in Mateo Garcia, a 22-year old Argentine winger who is currently signed to UD Las Palmas. Las Palmas finished 12th in the Segunda division of Spanish soccer, but Garcia spent the year on loan with Aris of the Greek league (If the name Aris sounds familiar, it is because it was one of Freddy Adu’s stops while he was on loan from Benfica). The level of interest is not known: it could sincere and deep, it could be a negotiating tactic, it could be a contingency, or it could be anywhere in between. The Spanish paper reports that D.C. United have yet to make an official offer.
Garcia scored 10 goals in 30 games from the left wing for Aris, and D.C. United are not alone in their reported pursuit of him: P.A.O.K., also of the Greek league, is apparently interested as well; according to La Provincia, however, Garcia refused a move to PAOK. According to Transfermarkt, his contract runs through the end of June in 2020, so if D.C. United’s interest is legitimate Las Palmas may have to take whatever they can get.
It wouldn’t be a rumor without a sizzle reel with some questionable music choices laid over top, so here you go:
More as we hear it.
