After months of speculation, it seems that the new D.C. United badge is finally here. This imagery is to be used with the MLS Store, so it seems like it is the real deal this time.
This badge removes some of the more stereotypical elements of the old badge, including the old-school soccer ball and the golden star in the middle of the badge, while incorporating the flag of the District of Columbia. It also removes much of the empty red space that was a part of the old badge, making the eagle even larger and making him burst out of the emblem.
I particularly like the version without the shield around it that is feature on the women's shirt and on the sweatshirt. My first impression is that it is a slightly bigger change than I thought it would be, but overall I like it. It is much simpler than the old badge, which was starting to look a little cluttered compared to those that have been introduced in the last 10 or so years.
I know there will be plenty of people who don't like it, but let me know. What do you think of this new badge?
