Agent for rumored D.C. United target Jose Ortiz says MLS loan “very close”

Former DCU midfielder Kurt Morsink, now Ortiz’s agent, thinks his client will be in MLS next season

Jose Guillermo Ortiz, the 24-year old Costa Rican attacker linked with D.C. United recently, has officially left LD Alajuelense for Herediano, who formally unveiled him today. During the press conference, Ortiz’s agent Kurt Morsink - yes, THAT Kurt Morsink, the former Black-and-Red midfielder who retired to be a scout for United from 2012-2015 - said that they were “...very close...” to a loan in MLS and that they hope something concrete on it would be done in the next couple of days. The loan would be for one year; Ortiz has signed with los Florenses for two.

At the moment, the only MLS team that we have seen attached to Ortiz remains D.C. United, to the point that one Costa Rican report last week had Ortiz signing with D.C. yesterday. If this deal (and we’re still at the “alleged” point here, so don’t jump to conclusions) were to be confirmed in the timeframe Morsink suggests, Ortiz would be the second player from Alajuelense to move to MLS in short order; defender Jose Salvatierra was signed by FC Dallas on Friday morning.
