The United States had been hoping to use the Tournament of Nations to prove that their troubling SheBelieves Cup performance was an aberration. They’ve still got time to do that, but they’ll have to take a major step forward tonight against Brazil. The USWNT created precious little in a 1-0 loss to Australia, and it will take a much sharper effort to hold off Marta and As Canarinhas.
Location: Qualcomm Stadium (San Diego, CA)
Kickoff time: 8:00pm Eastern
Projected USWNT starting 11: (442) - Alyssa Naeher; Ali Krieger, Becky Sauerbrunn, Abby Dahlkemper, Kelley O’Hara; Crystal Dunn, Allie Long, Morgan Brian, Mallory Pugh; Carli Lloyd, Alex Morgan
Bench: Abby Smith, Jane Campbell, Julie Ertz, Taylor Smith, Casey Short, Samantha Mewis, Midge Purce, Megan Rapinoe, Lindsey Horan, Christen Press, Sydney Leroux, Lynn Williams
As always, predicting a Jill Ellis lineup is a challenge. I’m guessing we see rotation up front and with the fullbacks, while Dunn rotates in for Rapinoe and Brian replaces Mewis.
