Jonkopings Sodra IF of Sweden’s Allsvenskan is listing a preseason friendly with D.C. United on their website for Wednesday, February 8 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Typically, these dates don’t get nailed down until mid-January. When contacted, United said that no preseason dates had been confirmed.
United has become a familiar face in Bradenton in recent years; this would be the fourth consecutive year they’ve spent some portion of the preseason there. Before that, in 2013, they appeared in the Disney Pro Soccer Classic in Kissimmee in 2013. Jonkopings is a familiar foe for them, having played them in 2015 and again in 2016. J-Sodra finished 12th out of sixteen teams in the 2016 Allsvenskan after earning promotion the previous season.
The MLS Player Combine begins in less than two weeks (January 7), while the draft is on January 13, so expect news about the season to slowly emerge in the coming days.
