After four years and qualifying attempts from over 200 nations, we’re finally at the World Cup final, with France and Croatia the final teams with a shot at lifting the trophy. The French, with teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe and the astounding defensive midfield play of N’Golo Kante, are kinda-sorta supposed to be here. They were among the pre-tournament favorites. Luka Modric, Mario Mandzukic, and Croatia? Not so much! But they’ve battled their way to Moscow anyway thanks to a tremendous midfield and supreme durability.

What to watch for: Literally everything! It’s the World Cup Final! But let’s give you some specifics: is the midfield going to be tilted by Kante, or will Modric, Ivan Rakitic, and co. boss the game? Can Croatia’s center backs Dejan Lovren and Domagoj Vida, neither of which is particularly quick, deal with Mbappe when he slashes inside? And on the other side, can Ivan Perisic keep overlapping right back Benjamin Pavard from giving France some needed width?
