Hi. I was at the beach most of the weekend and didn’t really see any soccer until last night, when I was watching FC Dallas generally handle the Philadelphia Union (D.C. United’s next opponent) via replay. Anyway, the beach is still fun, particularly when you have a kid seeing the beach, and the many dogs on it, for the first time.
The moral to these ramblings? D.C. United should win and make sure your beach has dogs I guess.
Spirit show grit, hanging on to 1-1 draw at Portland (us): Friday night the Washington Spirit went to Cascadia and brought home a point against the Portland Thorns, with Aubrey Bledsoe making a late PK save on Lindsey Horan. The Spirit remain in 5th in the NWSL. Goff has more, as does Stumptown Footy from the Baonpdx side.
Ranking the top 5 Argentine 10s in MLS history (MLS): Andrew Wiebe with a generally complaint-free list here.
Pride players dress for ’90s night’ ahead of Dash match (ProSoccer USA): The Orlando Pride did this ahead of their game with the Houston Dash and, my god this is wonderful.
How the game unfolded as Pep Guardiola’s side win 5-0 (Wales Online): In partner club news, Swansea City went to Citeh, where Manchester City had been crowned Premier League Champions earlier last week and well, that happened. Swans remain in 17th in the Premier League.
‘It was the last time we saw him’ (Sportsnet): On April 6, 2018, a semi-truck plowed into a coach bus carrying the Humboldt Broncos, a U-20 team in Saskatchewan. Investigations are ongoing but 16 people were killed and 13 injured on the 29-person bus. This oral history into the happenings of the crash and the aftermath is a sobering but emotionally necessary read.
Finally, swinging back to the extreme to end on an up note, congratulations go to Travis Worra and his girlfriend on their nuptials over the weekend:
