Welcome back, folks! It sure has been a minute since we made some predictions. I hope you guys are ready for #DCUAfterDark tonight, because what’s a better return to MLS action than a game that keeps you up only to have you watch your team (probably) lose?
As you will see, we’re not optimistic about this one.

DCU team…assemble!! We’re back…on the road. Of course we are, it’s July. Perfect time for a cross country road trip to visit the Sounders. Did the two week break help us regroup and get our scoring back on track? With the quick turnaround for the weekend, I think Ben Olsen doesn’t take a full lineup. We’re already missing Bill Hamid due to international duty, but Seattle is missing their two main strikers for the same reason. However, I think while we get one from Deshorn Brown, Seattle nabs two and it’s a 2-1 defeat in the CLink.
After a nice break, D.C. United is back with the same team, but healthier. Deshorn Brown will start, Rob Vincent and Nick DeLeon are back in the mix, but the team still has addressed their biggest problems. And that's all before Bill Hamid still being with the national team. I think that they will score one, but permanent pest Will Bruin will score two.
United hasn't scored a goal on the Sounders since May 2011. Charlie Davies scored that goal, which if it were a child would be in first grade. With that in mind, let me start with the good news: I think United will break that astounding run just before halftime, as Patrick Nyarko combines with Brown to open the scoring. On several occasions, it will look like Luciano Acosta is going to add to their total, and for a while this will look like a decent start to the back half of the season.
Unfortunately, Seattle has Ultimate United Killer Will Bruin, who has six goals in barely over 800 minutes on the season. I can't imagine holding him to fewer than two goals, so I suspect he scores one early and one late as the Black-and-Red fall 2-1 at Seattle. Stupid dancing bear, what a jerk.
Have you had enough of multi-game weeks? I know I haven't! [runs off to cry in the corner] DCU returns from some much needed rest to face a Seattle Sounders team that has lost only once in eight home matches this year. Travis Worra will start again in goal, while Bill Hamid sits on the bench at the Gold Cup. Do I sound optimistic? Seattle wins 2-0 on goals from Nicolas Lodeiro and Will Bruin.
So like...definitely this is not going to go well. Sure, United are coming off some rest and maybe that’s nice, but they’re also away to a Seattle team that is Not Terrible (and even if they Were Terrible, we’d probably Still Lose), and Bill Hamid is with the USMNT. I don’t see any goals for the Black-and-Red in this one—2-0 to the home side.
What’s your prediction for tonight’s game? Let us know in the comments, but not before taking today’s silly poll!
