Washington Spirit announce 2020 preseason schedule

Update 3/12/2020: With the outbreak of COVID-19, NWSL commissioner Lisa Baird has announced that the league has cancelled all preseason games.

At the moment, the Spirit’s preseason camp is ongoing, having just moved from the Maryland SoccerPlex to the warm-weather portion of camp detailed below. The original piece is as follows:

The Washington Spirit have announced their 2020 preseason schedule, which includes games against three NCAA powerhouse programs. Before the Spirit face off against the Virginia Cavaliers, the North Carolina Tar Heels, and the Penn State Nittany Lions, they will make club history by doing just under two weeks of training in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Previous preseasons have been spent entirely in the DMV.

Preseason officially begins on March 9, with players reporting for physical testing and early workouts at the Maryland SoccerPlex. However, the Spirit will only be in town for three days before departing for Florida on March 12. They’ll spend 13 days in Port St. Lucie, returning on March 25 ahead of the first of three preseason matches.

The Spirit have opted to make tickets to all three preseason games free to anyone with full season tickets, or a venue-specific ticket plan. There will also be a “bring a friend” promotion, in which season ticket holders will get a promo code good for an extra ticket.
