The Washington Spirit’s road game against the North Carolina Courage has been postponed to tomorrow afternoon. After powerful storms caused a nearly 150-minute weather delay, the Courage announced that the game will be played on Saturday, August 3 at 4:00pm. It will function as a double-header with the USL Championship match between North Carolina FC and Indy Eleven, which will go on as planned at 7:00pm.
Teams took the field for warm-ups ahead of a scheduled 7:00pm kickoff tonight, but lightning forced a delay. During that stoppage, torrential rains flooded both the playing surface at Sahlen’s Stadium and at least one tunnel out to the field.

As that last photo shows, the Sahlen’s Stadium drainage system did an impressive job dealing with the massive amount of rain that fell. However, even as the rain lessened, the storm continued to produce lightning, and eventually it was decided to move the game back a day.
At the moment, it is unclear whether the Spirit’s broadcast deal with NBC Sports Washington will result in the game being shown after this rescheduling.
