Last night’s game between the Washington Spirit and Houston Dash was called off on account of a storm that went on virtually all day long. After some hurried consultations with the Dash and the NWSL, everyone agreed to try it again today. The weather report has left a small morning window in which there will be no rain, which if true will give the Spirit just barely enough time to get this game in.
Location: Maureen Hendricks Field at Maryland SoccerPlex
Kickoff time: 10:00am Eastern
Projected Spirit starting 11: (3412) - Aubrey Bledsoe; Rebecca Quinn, Estelle Johnson, Tori Huster; Taylor Smith, Andi Sullivan, Meggie Dougherty Howard, Caprice Dydasco; Estefania Banini; Francisca Ordega, Ashley Hatch
Bench: DiDi Haracic, Whitney Church, Maddie Huster, Joanna Lohman, Havana Solaun, Mallory Eubanks
This is the lineup the Spirit said would be on the field last night. It could also be a 442 diamond, with Smith and Dydasco as fullbacks and Tori Huster into the midfield at the base. There’s nothing stopping Jim Gabarra from changing this now, but he only has 5 other healthy field players to choose from. Of those, Solaun and Eubanks are building fitness after injuries, while Maddie Huster has not played an NWSL minute.
Projected Dash starting 11: (442) - Jane Campbell; Taylor Comeau, Janine van Wyk, Amber Brooks, Lindsay Agnew; Sofia Huerta, Clare Polkinghorne, Linda Motlhalo, Savannah Jordan; Thembi Kgatlana, Rachel Daly
This is our guess at the lineup Vera Pauw provided to officials before the game was called off. Again, they could make changes, and typically they don’t play with 2 forwards, but this is what was listed, so let’s assume they don’t want to scrap their gameplan overnight.
Referee: Elvis Osmanovic
Available TV: None
Available streaming: This is an uncertain situation. Per the Spirit’s press release, the NWSL is uncertain whether they can arrange for go90 to stream the match via their website and app, or on NWSLsoccer.com for international viewers. There is at least some chance this game will not be streamed anywhere. We’ll update this post if we find out more.
What are you drinking?: This game kicks off at 10am, which means getting up at 6:30am for me, which on a weekend is simply not done. So I’ll probably get a cup of coffee at home, then another on my way in.
