Washington Spirit release 2017 preseason roster

32 players are vying for spots as the NWSL season approaches

Washington Spirit head coach Jim Gabarra named 32 players to the Spirit’s initial preseason roster today, as training camps begin throughout the NWSL. The roster includes 14 non-roster invitees. The Spirit will play four preseason games against top college teams to prepare for the start of their league schedule.

Kelsey Wys and Cali Farquharson, who are each rehabbing torn ACLs are designated as Out-of-Market contracted players. Dydasco, who tore her ACL in the NWSL Final, will join the team for preseason.

The roster includes the Spirit’s three 2017 draft picks (Lindsay Agnew, Meggie Dougherty Howard, and Cameron Castleberry) as well as Arielle Ship, who the Spirit acquired from Seattle Reign FC in a trade for Diana Matheson.

The Spirit’s first preseason game is this Sunday against Penn State. The Spirit will also play preseason matches against UNC, Duke, and University of Virginia. Every game except the March 25 game against UNC will be played at the Maryland Soccerplex.

The Spirit’s preseason roster is as follows:
