The Washington Spirit’s longest tenured player will spend this winter in Australia

Washington Spirit midfielder Tori Huster will return to Australia to play for the W-League’s Newcastle Jets. It’s a familiar move for Huster, who has previously spent time with Newcastle in 2012 and 2014. Additionally, the 28 year old spent the 2013 Australian season playing for the Western Sydney Wanderers. Per the Spirit, Huster will return before the 2018 NWSL season gets underway.

During the 2016 W-League season, the Jets finished in fifth place. Australia is a popular destination for NWSL players, with numerous players spending their winters on loan in the W-League. Fans can expect to hear about similar loans in the coming days.

Some of those moves have already been confirmed. Huster will be joined by former Spirit forward Katie Stengel, whose move to join the Jets on loan was announced last week. Stengel was traded to the Boston Breakers during the 2017 season. Portland Thorns goalkeeper Britt Eckerstrom, a Maryland native, is also joining the Jets alongside Chicago Red Stars defender Arin Gilliland. Newcastle also features Australia national team regular Emily van Egmond.
