The Washington Spirit drafted Lindsay Agnew this afternoon in the 2017 NWSL Draft. After having to wait for the 19th pick to come around, the Spirit selected Agnew, a forward from Ohio State. Agnew will add depth up top, particularly while Cali Farquharson continues to recover from the ACL tear she suffered in September.
Agnew improved dramatically in her senior season, scoring more goals in her final year than the previous three combined. For her career, she scored 18 goals for the Buckeyes. She also tallied eight assists as a senior. Mainly used as a flank player, Agnew can also play on the backline if needed. Her versatility will come in handy for the Spirit, who need depth at outside back. She is good 1v1 and if her senior season wasn’t a fluke, she has strong potential.
Agnew has featured on Canadian youth national teams and played outside back in the 2012 Under-17 Women’s World Cup. Agnew is also an American citizen, so she will not take up an international slot.
