Last night, the Washington Spirit and Sky Blue FC tried to finish their season series, but a major thunderstorm got in the way. With local ordinances requiring the stadium lights to be turned off at 11pm, the storms lasted just long enough to make a full warm-up and 90 minutes impossible to fit in (not to mention absolutely soaking the field). This is what it was like:

Today, they’ll get back together and play before Sky Blue has to head back to New Jersey. Everything we discussed yesterday still holds, and tickets to yesterday’s game are still good for today. The Spirit can’t jump into first place after a short-handed Portland Thorns FC managed to knock off Seattle Reign FC late last night, but they can still get back to level with the current league leaders on points with a win today. Sky Blue is in a similar situation, as the Chicago Red Stars won 1-0 last night over FC Kansas City, pushing the Jersey girls out of a playoff spot.
