The United States women’s national team faces England this afternoon in the second leg of the SheBelieves Cup. The USWNT won 1-0 against Germany last Wednesday, and the team will face France on Tuesday at RFK Stadium. England fell 2-1 to France after the French scored a stoppage time goal.
Lately U.S. head coach Jill Ellis has been using a 3-5-2 with mixed success, and England also used a 3-back in their latest game, which could make for an interesting tactical battle. Ellis could also use this match to test out some uncapped players such as Rose Lavelle, who has received several call-ups without getting to debut, and 16-year-old Brianna Pinto.
England features a host of attacking players but their defense can be weak. Former Washington Spirit forward Jodie Taylor started against France and is likely to start again today. Former Spirit stars Crystal Dunn and defender Ali Krieger could also feature for the USWNT (Dunn played 58 minutes out wide against Germany). One England player to watch out for is Jordan Nobbs, who scored against France last Wednesday.
