After beating Romania 8-1 on Thursday, the United State women’s national team faces them again tonight. Thursday’s match wasn’t expected to be competitive and tonight’s outcome isn’t what to watch for. What will be interesting is how USWNT head coach Jill Ellis rotates her roster and what new players and tactics she tries out.

Lately Ellis has been trying out a 3-4-3 and 3-5-2, with the 3-4-3 more likely tonight. The past few friendlies have also been used to test out younger, less-capped, players like Kealia Ohai and Lynn Williams. With Meghan Klingenberg out injured, Ellis could test out Kristen Edmonds or Emily Menges. Ali Krieger and Megan Rapinoe are both veterans who haven’t seen much time lately so this friendly could also be used to rotate them into the fold.

And for Romania? Their best shot is to exploit the deficiencies of Ellis’ 3-4-3 such as a deep-lying Allie Long, a faulty midfield and a backline that often got stretched out. Still, it’s unlikely that Romania will be able to exploit those flaws enough to win.

U.S. Soccer announced that defender Abby Dahlkemper is out for tonight with a foot injury.
