USA vs. Germany 2015 World Cup TV/streaming, lineups, previews, and gamethread

The USWNT face their biggest test so far in a semifinal match-up against powerhouse Germany.

Michael Chow-USA TODAY Sports

If you have been one of the many to feel unsure about the USWNT in this tournament—if you have shaken your first at Jill Ellis, cried out for better tactics, yelled at your television, etc.—then you're probably pretty nervous for this game.

Germany are a hella good team, y'all. This could easily be a final, but instead it's a semifinal, which means one of these two teams won't have a shot at getting their third World Cup.

Let's find out who it is.

Kickoff time: 7 p.m. ET

Venue: Olympic Stadium (Montreal, Canada)

TV/Streaming: Fox and NBC Universo for your televisions; Fox Sports Go and NBC Deportes En Vivo Extra for your streaming devices

Projected lineup: Get the easy stuff out of the way first—Hope Solo in goal with a back line of Ali Krieger, Julie Johnston, Becky Sauerbrunn, and Meghan Klingenberg.

Now...onto the unknowns (or lesser knowns, anyway). Lauren Holiday and Megan Rapinoe had to sit out the quarterfinal, but they're back for this one and I can't imagine Ellis doesn't use them. Ellis is also still, undoubtedly, married to her 4-4-2 formation, regardless of whether it's the right formation for her players. We can expect to see Rapinoe back on the wing, Holiday and Carli Lloyd in the middle, and I think we might see Kelley O'Hara on the other wing. Perhaps that'll be Tobin Heath, but it sure won't be Heather O'Reilly, so don't even wish for such things.

Ellis deployed Alex Morgan and Amy Rodriguez in the quarterfinal, but I have a feeling she'll be going back to Abby Wambach and Morgan for this one.

Match previews and recommended reading: Game notes from US Soccer, plus previews from Fox SportsMLSStars and Stripes, and NBC Sports. There's also the Guardian on Brandi Chastain's penalty, Goff's World Cup travelogue and his piece on Hope Solo, TFloyd of calling for a new USWNT formation, Wahl from SI discussing lineup choices, and the WSJ talking about why the USWNT is must-see.

Prediction: My bias is showing—but I'm going 2-1 to the U.S. It'll require extra time though.

What are you drinking? Something AMERICAN, damn it.
