D.C. United can begin moving into Audi Field

We’re almost there, people

Caitlin Buckley

Earlier this week D.C. United received a Certificate of Occupancy for Audi Field, a document that opens the door for them to start moving in. The certificate is a temporary one, as there are some conditions remaining in the Planned Unit Development (PUD) for the stadium which need to be satisfied by the team in order for the certificate can be made permanent. Those are:

  • The sidewalk and pocket parks on the east side of the new First St. will not be done before the stadium opens. The letter mentions this can be put off until the season ends.
  • All other community benefit commitments expected to be fulfilled before a soft opening (private event) on June 26.

While the temporary certificate remains in place until March 2019, the more important milestone here is that the certificate serves as a means for the team to begin moving into Audi Field, with 49 days remaining until the opening game July 14 against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Crazy times we live in. I wonder what Wayne Rooney thought when he stopped by?
