The Guardian is reporting that have D.C. United and the LA Galaxy pursuing Chelsea striker Samuel Eto'o, who would move to MLS during the summer transfer window. Eto'o is famous for his time at Barcalona and Inter Milan and is currently out of favor at Jose Mourinho's Chelsea. He would be an immediate impact player, and if he were to come to United, he would be the biggest signing in team history. It is interesting that the LA Galaxy are a rumored destination, as they currently have no open designated player spots and I cannot imagine Eto'o coming for less than that; perhaps the Galaxy are anticipating one of their DPs leaving soon. Obviously the British press is famous for whipping up baseless rumors, but the Guardian is a slightly more reputable source.
The rumor is also coming out of New Zealand, because apparently Ryan Nelsen-coached Toronto FC are also interested in Eto'o; however, the striker would apparently prefer to play in the United States rather than Canada. My initial reaction is that Eto'o would be great signing for United and a sign that the ownership group is willing to put some serious money into the team. What do you all think?
