After a week-long break from any preseason matches, D.C. United is back on the road again to take on the Houston Dynamo in the opening match of the Carolina Challenge Cup. United has won the last three editions of the Challenge Cup which it has contested, but hopefully the end result of the tournament is a little closer to 2012 than to 2010. The Charleston Battery and the Seattle Sounders will play the nightcap, with United and the Dynamo opening the tournament.
Time: 5 PM EST
Venue: Blackbaud Stadium, Charleston, SC
Live Streaming: This game will be live streamed at mlssoccer.com/live and dcunited.com/live. It is also available on YouTube (since all USL PRO teams will be streaming their games on that platform this season).
Previews: The folks at dcunited.com have put together a video preview with Bobby Boswell and Chad Ashton.
Projected D.C. United lineup: After some experimentation in the previous preseason games, we are likely to find out with which formation Ben Olsen will start the season over these next three games. I predict that Bill Hamid will be in goal, with Sean Franklin, Bobby Boswell, Jeff Parke, and Christian in front of him. Chris Korb will start for Christian if his hand prevents him from playing. Perry Kitchen, Jared Jeffrey, and Davy Arnaud will start in the midfield, with Nick DeLeon nominally playing on the wing put pushing up very high. Fabian Espindola and Eddie Johnson will start as forwards.
Prediction: D.C. United nabs a goal and holds on for a 1-0 win.
What are you drinking? Bourbon of some sort, but I will let you know what when we are closer to the game.
As always, this is your place for pre-game, in-game, and post-game chatter.
