At long last, we've reached the end of the line. This is the final post in our month-plus-long Cake or Death series. Actually, that's not true. Next week, we'll have one last post to wrap the whole thing up. But today is our last poll in the series, and it's a big'un. Today we decide whether we want Dave Kasper back.
Dave Kasper has been United's GM since the middle of the 2007 season. Before that, he had been the team's technical director since the end of 2001. Until this season, he worked under Kevin Payne, president/director/decider for United since the club's founding. In 2013, though, Kasper had the controls all to himself. We all know the results on the field.
Kasper might have joined the Black-and-Red at the club's first ever true low point, and he helped to revive United as the RFK trophy case added the 2004 MLS Cup, back-to-back Supporters' Shields in 2006 and '07, and a U.S. OpenCup in 2008. Not a bad little run, though it's been followed by mostly crap since Payne and Kasper blew up that 2007 team in a vain, Gallardo-scented search for playoff glory.
But today's vote is about the future, not the past. Our question is straightforward: should Dave Kasper be the General Manager of D.C. United in 2014? If so, give him Cake. If not, "or Death."
