MLS Power Rankings, Week 23: The race tightens

Several teams have moved back into the hunt in this week's Power Rankings.

The Major League Soccer season hit what is possibly its most competitive weekend yet as far as eyeballs, as the Olympics opened in Rio de Janeiro and has taken a lot of the media attention. Still, a few teams used the weekend's matches to move up in the playoff chase. Toronto FC used two home victories to vault to 2nd in the Eastern Conference, while the LA Galaxy, Colorado Rapids and Sporting Kansas City have started to close in on FC Dallas in the Western Conference.

For other teams, they are working hard to try and get above that playoff line and be in the hunt for November soccer. Teams like the Vancouver Whitecaps, our beloved D.C. United and Orlando City can't afford to drop points over the next few weeks if they want to catch up with the teams above the playoff line. A full slate of games this weekend, particularly in several cities on the East that are expecting unbearably hot weather, means teams will have to dig deep and use their depth to get the points they need.

Alright, let's hear from you now. Which teams, besides our beloved Black-and Red, desperately need victories this weekend? Who do you think is set up for the let up? Which of the major MLS acquisitions will make the biggest impact over the rest of the season? Comments are open...have at it!
