Man, was the first day of summer hot. With the summer solstice hitting high gear on Sunday, so did the temperatures not just in D.C. but across the nation. Luckily, Major League Soccer gave the fans in the stands around the league reason to brave the brutal heat, providing lots of quality soccer over the past weekend. With all of the American-based teams also participating in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup last week in addition to league matches, there was plenty of MLS action to take in. Teams will be playing a truckload of games over the next couple weeks. Be sure to stay hydrated as you prepare for all the fun set to take place over the next two months. This summer is already shaping up to be hot, humid and rather stormy, but hopefully it doesn't mean that the soccer play will suffer on the field or that you'll be in the stands only wondering why you're out in the sweltering heat.
There were a few changes this week as the middle of the pack continues to be further bunched up and some of the top teams take stumbles or tumbles. Our beloved Black-and-Red moves back to #1 partly because Seattle went down at home to San Jose and partly because...well, who else you going to put over them? They're tops in the Supporters Shield rankings and a full 7 points clear of the field in the Eastern Conference. Vancouver has also been playing well and earned some thought, but in the end the admitted homer pick is number one.
Now, it's your turn. What does your rankings look like? Do you have a favorite in the bunched up West? How will the upcoming Gold Cup affect the standings? Comment away with your suggestions!

Unlucky to lose in the final seconds in Salt Lake, but offense sputters at times.
