MLS Power Rankings, Week 14: MLS sets the soccer table

New, comments

MLS had a ton of games last week, and a lot of them were spectacular. This week's Power Rankings have plenty for you to feast on.

Major League Soccer is not putting the brakes on this season, leaving fans with plenty of league soccer to take in so far among the trees of the UEFA Champions League final, the FIFA U-20 World Cup, men’s international friendlies and confederation qualifiers and the start of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Last year, we were watching MLS shut down for two weeks to make way for the group stages of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Not this year. This past weekend saw MLS fans with 13 games on the menu, and tons of action included with each match. Some of the best games of the weekend around the world resided right here in our domestic league, and that is exactly what the league wants to showcase its players and highlight the skill this league’s players can possess.

Sadly, this coming week there are only 5 MLS matches, but do us all a favor and tune into as many as you can. This week sees the start of the 2015 Copa America and Euro qualifiers, so there will be plenty of soccer to watch. Just make sure that whether it’s an appetizer or the main course, you leave room for the MLS matches on your plate.

With so many games last week and such turnover among some teams, it was hard to pinpoint who had good weeks, who had terrible weeks and who had weeks that were affected by players on international duty. We do know one thing: right now, our beloved D.C. United is at the top of the Supporters Shield standings and also have slid back into the top spot in these rankings. NYCFC still holds down the basement and at this point should be paying rent. What do you think about last week’s games? What are you expecting from the 5 games coming up this weekend? Hit the comments and have your say!
