MLS Power Rankings, Week 9: The cream starts to rise

The top teams start to separate themselves from the rest of the pack in this week's edition of the Power Rankings.

Seventeen.  If you have that many points so far in this young Major League Soccer season, then congratulations...you are at the top of the Supporters Shield standings!  So far, four teams have a claim on the number one spot: New England Revolution, FC Dallas, Vancouver Whitecaps, and our beloved D.C. United.  After Seattle at 16 points (who actually claims the top spot in this week's rankings), the rest of the pack lags behind hoping to keep pace.  Surely, someone in the top group will cool off while someone in the peleton will mount a surge.  Maybe one of the teams that people thought would be really good this season (I'm looking at you, LA and Kansas City) will catch fire.  As we move into May, this will be a key month for teams to get as many points as possible before the summer international tournaments start taking the league's stars away for much of the summer.

Think we got it right this week?  Who's your top team in the league?  Is it the Black-and-Red?   Sound off in the comments below!

The clicking Crew attack was shut down in DC. They’ll need to rebound to gain ground on the leaders.

Drew LA on the road...not sure if that says something about how Colorado played or LA played.

They need to get a lot better…defensive lapses and turnovers have killed them this season.

Has a team ever had 6 games in hand at any point in MLS history? Well, Montreal does.
