Fantasy Focus: Adi Winehouse

Why don’t you come on over, Valeri?

With a round one score of 115 points, MLS Muppets staked an 18-point lead on the pack. Wocka wocka. Fanendo Adi (POR, $9.5) was the captain and scored two goals on the way to 32 points, leading the team. Teammate Diego Valeri ($10.0) added an assist to his own two goals for 16 points, and Axel Sjoberg (COL, $6.5) posted a clean sheet and 12 points.

Positional Leaders

Goalkeepers

Nick Rimando (RSL, $6.0) and Tim Melia (SKC, $5.5) each saved a penalty on the way to a clean sheet to tie at the top with 14 points. Joe Bendik (ORL, $5.0) earned his own clean sheet for 11 points. DCU’s Bill Hamid ($5.5) scored 9 points.

Defenders

Colorado center backs Jared Watts ($5.5) and Axel Sjoberg led the pack with clean sheets, scoring 13 and 12 points respectively. Behind them, a trio of defenders earned clean sheets on the way to 11 points — Drew Moor (TOR, $6.0), Eriq Zavaleta ($5.0), and Christian Dean (VAN, $4.5). For United, Steven Birnbaum ($6.0) and Taylor Kemp ($6.0) scored 9 points, and Sean Franklin ($5.5) scored 6 points.

Midfielders

Diego Valeri’s 16 points led the midfielders and tied for the overall lead. Just behind him, Anibal Godoy (SJ, $7.0) scored a goal and 15 points, while Atlanta’s Yamil Asad ($8.5) scored the first ever goal for his club and 10 points. D.C.’s midfield was led by both Nick DeLeon ($6.0) and Jared Jeffrey ($5.5) with 6 points, followed by Julian Buescher ($5.5) with 5 points, Patrick Nyarko ($8.0) and Marcelo Sarvas ($7.0) with 4 points, Lloyd Sam ($8.5) with 3 points, and Lamar Neagle ($7.5) with 1 point.

Forwards

Fanendo Adi’s 16 points led the forwards and tied with Diego Valeri for the overall lead. The pair of Romell Quioto (HOU, $8.5) and Giovani dos Santos (LA, $10.0) scored a goal and 10 points. For United, Patrick Mullins ($8.5) scored 2 points, and Jose Ortiz ($7.0) scored 1 point.

Looking Ahead

Under usual circumstances I would tell you not to freak out about a down first round, but with unlimited transfers every week you can do whatever you want. Every team is playing this week, so you need not consider byes. In goal, I like Tyler Deric (HOU, $5.0) at home against Columbus, and in defense I like Aaron Long (NYR, $5.0) at home against Colorado. In the midfield, stay with Diego Valeri’s hot hand on the road against LA, and Erick Torres (HOU, $8.5) at forward.
