Fantasy Focus: Bradley Wright-Phillips gets Ousted

A pair of penalty saves goes a long way.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Salisbury United SC led the round with 70 points, and closed to within 97 points of the leader. Jorge Villafana (POR, $6.4) led the team with 13 points on a clean sheet, assist, and an earned penalty. Donny Toia (MTL, $4.8) scored 12 points on a clean sheet and a goal, while Juninho (LA, $8.5) scored 11 points with a goal and an assist. Poor Man's Porales is still the overall leader.

Positional Leaders

Goalkeepers

Vancouver's David Ousted ($5.7) saved not one, but two Bradley Wright-Phillips penalties on the way to 14 points, the positional lead, and a share of the overall lead. David Bingham (SJ, $5.3) earned a clean sheet and 9 points to come in alone in second. Three players tied for third, each with clean sheets and 7 points -- Evan Bush (MTL, $5.0), Josh Saunders (NYC, $5.6), and Adam Kwarasey (POR, $5.7). D.C.'s Bill Hamid ($6.5) scored 5 points.

Defenders

Jorge Villafana's 13 points led all defenders, and Donny Toia's 12 were second. The San Jose duo of Victor Bernardez ($7.5) and Clarence Goodson ($8.0) joined Montreal's Laurent Ciman ($7.8) in scoring 8 points with a clean sheet. For United, Steven Birnbaum ($7.6) led with 5 points, followed by Taylor Kemp ($7.7) with 4 points, Bobby Boswell ($9.3) with 3, and Chris Korb ($5.6) with 2.

Midfielders

Baggio Husidic (LA, $8.2) scored a goal and assisted on two more en route to 14 points, the lead among midfielders, and his own share of the overall lead. Matias Perez Garcia (SJ, $8.5) scored a goal and assisted on another for 13 points. DCU's Chris Rolfe ($9.2) and RSL's Javier Morales ($11.5) each scored 12 points -- Rolfe with a brace, and Morales with a goal and two assists. The rest of the DCU midfield featured Nick DeLeon ($6.4) with 5 points, Miguel Aguilar ($4.9) with 3, Davy Arnaud ($6.5) and Perry Kitchen ($7.5) both with 2, and Luis Silva ($8.4) and Markus Halsti ($7.0) both with 1.

Forwards

LA's Gyasi Zardes ($9.8) scored a goal and two assists for 14 points, the positional lead, and the third and final share of the overall lead. David Villa (NY, $10.8) scored two goals and 12 points, and Anatole Abang (NYR, $5.6) scored a goal and 8 points. Bradley Wright-Phillips scored -2 points. For United, Fabian Espindola ($10.4) led with 6 points, and Conor Doyle ($5.4) scored 1.

Looking Ahead

Twelve teams play twice, while everyone else plays once. The teams playing twice are Colorado, Columbus, DCU, Montreal, LA, New England, the Red Bulls, Philadelphia, Portland, RSL, Seattle, and Toronto. Obviously you want to load up on two-game guys. It's hard to argue against goalkeeping points leader Stefan Frei (SEA, $5.8) @PHI and @POR. In defense, carve out the space for LA's Omar Gonzalez ($10.0) vs. POR and @SJ. Don't be scared off by Sebastian Giovinco's (TOR, $12.1) down week, and use him in the midfield at home against MTL and DCU. Lastly, get Kei Kamara (CLB, $9.1) back in vs. NE and @RSL.

Everyone's Adding: G - Stefan Frei (+45), D - Jorge Villafana (+362), M - Sebastian Giovinco (+338), F - Kei Kamara (+521)

Everyone's Dropping: G - Stefan Frei (-53), D - Kofi Opare (DCU, $5.1, -338), M - Clint Dempsey (SEA, $11.8, -596), F - Jairo Arrieta (DCU, $6.4, -276)
