A report from Big Apple Soccer says that the New York Cosmos hope to bring in D.C. United's Andrea Mancini on loan for the remainder of the NASL fall season, with the move possibly being sealed by the end of the week. Mancini has been training with the Cosmos for about a month now, and is the son of Roberto Mancini, recently relieved of his duties at Inter Milan, where Erick Thohir (Managing Partner of D.C. United) holds a minority ownership stake.
The Cosmos are currently first in the NASL's fall standings, though they are dealing with manpower shortages currently. Due to national team call-ups and injuries, they dressed just 17 players in their win Saturday, and may do the same thing tonight.
Were this move to occur, this would open up an international roster spot for D.C. so they could activate Alhaji Kamara from the Injured Reserve. He was placed there in the wake of the Black-and-Red’s acquisition of Kennedy Igboananike from the Chicago Fire. The team’s weekend win over the Fire was the last of the six minimum games a player has to serve on the IR, so provided the hamstring strain he was dealing with is cured, there could be a second domino to fall here.
